This is the largest of 10 contracts in the I-355 South Extension Corridor Improvement Plan. It links the I-55 Stevenson Expressway on the North to I-80 on the South, an approximately 14-mile stretch of highway through Cook and Will counties in Illinois. The 6,600 foot long Des Plaines River Bridge spans 3 rivers, 2 railroads, and 3 roadways and carries 6 lanes of traffic over the town of Lemont, IL. It is the 2nd longest bridge in Illinois, and the 612 post tension girders are some of the largest in the US varying in length from 90 – 170 feet and weighing up to 256,000 pounds.
