In this episode of Ruben’s Rundown: What’s in Your Glass, I’m reviewing La Gritona Reposado Tequila, a clean, agave-forward reposado that stands out for its approachability, thoughtful production, and distinctive presentation.
This pairing immediately felt like summer, so I matched it with a vintage Georges Briard sunglasses lowball that perfectly sets the mood.
I’m not a tequila expert or a brand rep—just a consumer sharing honest, experience-based thoughts. After visiting Tequila, Mexico and touring the Jose Cuervo plant, I’ve gained a better understanding of how production choices shape what ends up in the glass. In this review, I also explain NOM numbers, what they mean, and why they matter when learning how to read a tequila bottle, tying everything back to concepts covered in Tequila 101.
I’m enjoying this pour in a vintage Georges Briard sunglasses lowball, part of my personal mid-century glassware collection. I’ve previously done a full video on my Georges Briard glasses, and once again, a big shout-out to Greenari Vintage for introducing me to these pieces and helping make vintage barware part of the ritual, not just decoration.
In this review, I cover:
• Who makes La Gritona and where it’s produced (NOM 1533)
• What NOM means and why it’s important when choosing tequila
• How La Gritona Reposado is made, including cooking, distillation, and aging
• Flavor profile, balance, and overall drinkability
• Why this reposado works especially well as a warm-weather sipper
If you’ve tried La Gritona, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Is this one of your go-to reposados, or do you prefer something richer or more oak-forward? Drop your experience in the comments. I have plenty of bottles lined up, but if there’s a tequila you want me to review next, let me know and I’ll add it to the list.
