"A 3 Part Journey from Nirvana to Old Time" aka "The 1990s meet the 1890s" or as Dante put it, "we kicked it back a century." It all started with my guitar student Vincent asking me to teach him "Sliver" by Nirvana. Hearing the tune again after all these years it immediately struck me as melodic and trad sounding. My next student, Leon, and I turned it into a fiddle tune by pulling it up to D and adding a few slippery turns and rhythms. Dante stepped in on his break and polished it off with the banjo. And, it works! Sounds legit trad right up until the lyrics remind you what you're listening to. Then, it's true to the original melody and the authentic trad sound. It's super fun to play.
