This 1957 Chevy 1300 (or 3100 in USA) had the fuel tank behind the seat. This is not only dangerous, but takes up all the room inside the cab.
Because I’m running fuel injection, I don’t want to have a fuel pump inside the cab with the potential to spray gas at 100 psi. That would be a baaad idea.
So I’m going to install a racing fuel cell into the bed of my truck- or rather under the bed of my truck, between the frame rails. I start by bending some strips of 1” wide 1/8” thick steel flat stock To act as mounting straps.
I then weld in two bars across the frame, and weld the bottom straps to the bars. I chose to weld the bottom straps because I don’t like the idea of a bolt potentially coming loose and my fuel cell dragging behind me. Kaboom.
Then, I drill holes in the crossmembers so that I can bolt the top straps into place. I bolted them so that if I need to remove the fuel cell, I don’t need to cut anything, just undo four bolts and it’ll pull up through the bed floor.
