Medical Illustration Speed Drawing - Vector Graphics in Illustrator by Annie Campbell

Here's my process for a poster illustration for a series of posters that will showcase at the Dundee Design Festival, at the end of May 2016.

The posters will be part of a medicine and design exhibit where it shows the general public how scientists in Dundee discovered the highly researched p53 protein.

The brain child of this exhibit and the poster was Dr. Richard Oparka, an incredibly talented teacher and lead pathologist at Ninewells Hospital. He wanted to explain how p53 works in a person's body, normally and what happens when p53 stops working.

His story tells of p53 as a policeman making sure cells undergo a thorough checkpoint review before they are allowed to multiply. If a cell has faulty DNA, then the p53 policeman tells it to get its DNA fixed or die off. If for some reason p53 stops doing it's job at this checkpoint, cells with faulty DNA can multiply which could potentially lead to the development of cancer.
