In short, 95% of the time you will back up on any trailer. There are a few that have a very low ramp angle that you have to choose. When the ramp angle is below 15 degrees, decide the direction with the following in mind.
If the machine has a full load-bearing attachment (e.g., bucket) or a non-load-bearing attachment (e.g., trencher), drive the machine forward up the ramp.
If the machine has an empty load-bearing attachment or no attachment, back the machine up the ramp.

Few people would load a Mini Skid Steer with a full bucket of material, but if you did, forward would be the best way to go if the bucket has a large amount of weight in it. Even with a heavy power rake on the front of the Toro Dingo TX1300, I load it backward because the attachment would allow me to stop a roll backing in the trailer or driving out of the trailer. On a trailer like the hydraulic tilt trailer we showed, I load the Dingo forward, but the angle for loading is very small.

Once you have used a Mini Skid Steer over rough terrain, it will teach you the way your machine wants to work best. Even small bumps, stumps, or logs, in fields can create a large roll forward and back while driving over the obstruction. This can create a bucking effect if you are moving too fast.

Key here is drive slow, be ready for anything to go wrong and work hard to be smart about the situation and your ramps.
