Pierre Eusard staked a claim along Paris Creek on Douglas Island, in May of 1881. Later that year, John Treadwell bought that claim and some adjoining claims. He started what would become the most successful of Alaska's early gold mines. At its peak, it employed almost two thousand men.
This one-hour video documents the story of that mine.
Produced by Alaska Digital Images.
We're sadden to hear the personality of this tape, Richard "Rick" Urion, passed away in 2008: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/... he has a wonderful obituary and his memory lives on through those who knew him, his time in the Alaska House of Representatives, his family, and his video productions such as this one.
