吴谨言在《老炮儿》时与管虎导演有过合作。在《八佰》还未定任何演员的情况下，需要拍摄开机前的样片，当时吴谨言正在上海参演管虎监制、费振翔导演的电视剧《外滩钟声》，剧组就邀请她进行了试拍，感谢吴谨言对影片《八佰》做出的所有工作。
Wu Jinyan had previously worked with director Guan Hu on Mr. Six. When The Eight Hundred had not yet finalized its cast, it was necessary to shoot a sample reel before the official start of filming. At the time, Wu Jinyan was in Shanghai working on the TV series The Sound of the Bell at Shanghai Bund, which was produced by Guan Hu and directed by Fei Zhenxiang. The production team invited her to participate in the test shoot, and they expressed their gratitude to Wu Jinyan for all the work she contributed to The Eight Hundred.
