🐾 MY WILD HOLM – Black Bear Encounter 🐾🐻 Living on a remote island in the Canadian wilderness brings surprises — but nothing prepared us for this. Our dog Opal was barking ferociously and when we ran to check, we discovered she had chased a huge Black Bear 🐻 up a tree only a few meters from our tiny cabin.

Just when we thought our remote wilderness island was safe... a bear shows up near our tiny cabin! Join us for a jaw-dropping wildlife encounter, canoe fishing, and more off-grid adventures.

This was one of the wildest moments we’ve experienced on our Remote Island Homestead*. Opal stood her ground, barking nonstop, keeping the bear perched in the tree while we secured the area. Life out here is breathtaking, unpredictable, and sometimes a little terrifying — and this *Black Bear Encounter is a perfect reminder of how wild our wilderness truly is.

🌲 Off Grid Homestead Life
This is why living remotely is both a privilege and a responsibility. We share this island with wildlife, and every encounter teaches us something new about respect, safety, and coexistence.

Opal might be small, but she’s fearless. Watching her stand between us and a massive Black Bear was one of the most intense moments we’ve ever filmed on Bird Island.

In this unforgettable episode, we also take you along on a canoe fishing adventure, talk about our Saskatoon berries for homemade jam, and reflect on what it really means to live off-grid with family.

The island welcomes more visitors and as we prep for our son’s return, life on Bird Island keeps unfolding with surprises, beauty, and the occasional furry intruder!
