The working principle of the water jet is to pressurize water to an extremely high pressure through ultra-high pressure technology, and then eject high-speed water flow through a tiny nozzle, using the kinetic energy of the water flow for cutting. Its specific working process can be divided into the following steps:
1. Pressurization: The high-pressure pump in the water jet system pressurizes the water through the reciprocating motion of the piston. Commonly used high-pressure pumps can increase the pressure of water to more than 4000 atmospheres. The pressurized water is sent to a device called an accumulator to stabilize the water pressure.
2. Jetting: Stable high-pressure water enters the nozzle from the accumulator and is ejected through a very small nozzle (usually 0.1 - 0.4 mm in diameter). According to the Bernoulli principle, the speed of the water flow increases rapidly when passing through a narrow nozzle, which can reach 3 times the speed of sound.
3. Cutting: The high-speed water flow has huge kinetic energy. When it comes into contact with the surface of the object to be cut, it will generate a huge impact force, destroying the molecular structure of the object, thereby achieving cutting. In addition, the water jet can also achieve cutting of different shapes by controlling the movement path of the nozzle and the pressure of the water flow.
Water jet cutting can be divided into pure water jet cutting and abrasive water jet cutting. Pure water jet cutting is suitable for cutting soft materials, while abrasive water jet cutting enhances the cutting ability by mixing abrasives (such as pomegranate sand) into high-speed water flow, and is suitable for cutting harder materials such as steel plates, ceramics, glass, etc.
