Launched in 1930 as a luxurious trans-Pacific ocean liner, this Japanese vessel was repurposed as a submarine tender, brimming with torpedoes, artillery shells, and periscopes before American aircraft doomed it during the devastating 1944 Operation Hailstone raid.
