#hongyacave Cave is not a “cave” — it’s a dramatic 11-storey stilt-house complex built into a steep cliff along the southern bank of the Jialing River in the downtown of Chongqing.
Its architecture echoes the traditional “diaojiaolou” (hanging-house) style, reimagined as a modern commercial + cultural attraction — combining shops, restaurants, street-food stalls, handicraft stores, bars, and scenic viewpoints.
Because of its unique multilevel layout, cliffside location, and especially the nighttime illumination, many compare its vibe to the fantastical setting of a film or animated world

Golden time: late afternoon → evening. Visiting a bit before sunset lets you see Hongya Cave’s architecture in daylight — then stay until nightfall to watch all the buildings glow with neon lights reflected on the river.
Night (around 19:30–21:30) — widely regarded as the most magical time. The glowing stilt-houses, river reflections, and surrounding city lights create a surreal, cyberpunk-meets-traditional-town atmosphere — perfect for photos or video.

Also good by day — stroll through the shops, food stalls, handicraft vendors; get a river- and city-scape view; appreciate details of the architecture; grab lunch or snacks before nightfall.

Plan around 1–3 hours here if you want a relaxed visit (shopping + photos + food). If you linger — exploring more shops, eating, maybe doing a river cruise nearby — 2–3 hours or more.

Note on crowds: Especially around 19:00–21:00 and on weekends or holidays — it’s busy. To avoid crowds, many travelers recommend visiting on a weekday evening and entering via the upper level first.

You can reach Hongya Cave via Chongqing’s metro system. Two convenient options:

Take Metro Line 2, exit at Linjiangmen Station, Exit A — then walk ~700 m along Linjiang Road.

Or take Metro Line 1 or 6, get off at Xiaoshizi Station, Exit 6 — then walk ~700 m to the site.

Once there, use the upper-level entrance (top floors) if possible. That helps you avoid long stair-climbs early, and you can descend through the levels, enjoying food, shops, and ending at the riverside for night-view photos.
