In early 2016, the Dublin International Piano Competition (DIPC) launched a pilot project, in conjunction with the Church of Ireland College of Education (CICE), to support and equip student teachers to teach children about piano music.
The training module, which focuses on promoting an understanding of some of the milestones in the development of piano as an instrument, was rolled out to student teachers earlier this year. Multi-media is used to engage both the young teachers and their pupils. The highlight of the project, for schools that have access to a piano, is the facilitated visit of a professional musician to participating schools to give a piano recital.
