WALKS IN WILTSHIRE at OLD WARDOUR CASTLE (4K)

In this episode of my series “Walks in Wiltshire”, I take a 3.5 mile circular walk from Old Wardour Castle which is located about 15 miles West of Salisbury. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.

I parked my car at the car park next to Old Wardour Castle (both the castle & the car park are managed by English heritage). Car parking is free but there is an entrance fee to visit the castle (check the English Heritage website for opening times & ticket prices).

The first part of my walk was spent exploring the ruins of Old Wardour Castle as well as the Banqueting House & Grotto before I headed Weston a public footpath to the “New” Wardour Castle (now private flats).

Continuing through the tiny settlement of Wardour, I made a small detour to check out the River Nadder, before heading South past Westfield Farm and on to Park Gate Farm. At this point, I headed back North through Park Copse and along a section of the Wessex Ridgeway back to Old Wardour Castle (passing by the enchanting Pale Park Pond).

My final destination was the English Heritage building at Old Wardour Castle where I enjoyed light refreshments.

Dogs are allowed in Old Wardour Castle on a lead.
