Microbes
Microbes are microscopic living organisms, most of them can not be seen by the naked eye, they are found everywhere around us including inside our bodies, and they can be either beneficial or harmful.
Classification of Microbes
The following chart shows the classification of some microbes that we will study:
First: Beneficial Microbes
❶ beneficial bacteria
A. Root nodule bacteria and Decomposition bacteria:
Green plants need:
• Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen elements to form carbohydrates in the process of photosynthesis.
• Nitrogen element to form proteins which are used in the growth of cells and tissues.
• Plants cannot use nitrogen from the air or the soil in its gaseous form. Therefore, certain types of beneficial microbes in the soil provide the plants with nitrogen in the form of compounds they can use, such as: Root nodule bacteria, which live on the roots of leguminous plants like clover, beans and peas in special structures called root nodules.
Root nodule (Nodular) Bacteria
A type of beneficial bacteria that live inside nodules on the roots of leguminous plants, providing them with nitrogen in a usable form to produce the proteins which are used in the growth of their cells and tissues.
