Mid-June is a good time to begin preparing a new bed for fall peony planting. In this video, Dan Furman of Cricket Hill Garden demonstrates step-by-step how to prepare a new using a no-till method. First, he explains how to chose a planting location considering variables such as slope, rockiness, and sunlight. Next, he discusses in depth seven different soil amendments that support peony growth and demonstrates how to apply them. Finally, he shows us how to smother out the grass and other weeds in the new planting area by applying a generous heap of organic compost and mulch.
