In my last comaprison and image test between these two cameras, I discovered some strange aliasing in 4K especially on the Lumix S1ii. — High contrast, diagonal lines.
My suspision was that the sensor was either performing a poor, or oversharpened filter as the image is downsampled to 4K, or that it is employing some form of line-skipping to deliver a lower resolution than what the full sensor is capable of.
So in this test I tried all the available 25p MOV and Prores modes, and truly, these Lumix cameras seem to employ a poor downsampling method when it comes to anything 4K.
End of the day, if resolution and detail resolve is something important, Open Gate or anything above 5K will work very well for these two cameras, especially so for the Lumix S1ii.
If not, the APSC and Pixel-Pixel Crops also perform well with detail acquisition over the full sensor downsampling to 4K.
Once again, the GH7 doing it's thing, being a boss in the small sensor vs large sensor game. Wonderful details without oversharpening. Honestly, I think it's just a resize filter that they can change so that the downsampled image doesnt overcompensate for extra sharpness.
Thanks for watching the long video! Hope this was helpful!
