Hart District Council, in collaboration with the Fleet Pond Society, organised for a fish survey to take place in October 2021 following a serious fish kill in the previous year. The fish deaths were linked to the crash of a bloom of blue-green algae and low concentrations of dissolved oxygen.
The survey was carried out by fishery management consultants Moore and Moore Carp, supported by fisheries scientist, Dr Ian Watson, Environment Agency Fisheries Officer, Adrian Bicknell and Chris Gardner, catchment officer with the South East Rivers Trust.
This short video shows the techniques used and examples of the fish caught. A report detailing the findings of the survey will be provided to the council.
Water quality in the lake has been much better in 2021 and no further fish deaths have been recorded.
