So I really like how the Dyna Comp compresses my tone. I've heard a lot of good things about the Dyna Comp for slide guitar so I was intrigued to do this song again. I am hardly even decent at slide guitar but I wanted to give this a shot with the compressor I just go, so I did.
For this version of "Kite" I just used my Les Paul into the Dyna Comp into the M13 with a Screamer drive and that went into the amp. I went pretty light on the drive. I used just enough to get a decent crunch to my sound and the compressor did the rest. No delay used here, although you could argue that I should have used one. I miked my AC30 with a Shure SM57! Finally, I can start recording with my favorite mic again.
Oh yeah, for that solo I kicked in a Tube Overdrive with some high gain to give the sound more aggression. I had to be careful though because I got a lot of feedback this way but the sound was good for that part.
While I am not happy with my slide playing abilities I am very satisfied with the tone I got and how I played the non-slide parts. I was hoping for more of a warmer, glassier tone when playing the slide parts. I probably could have rolled off a bit on the treble and maybe even used a brass slide (I don't have a brass slide btw) but what're you gonna do? I like the sound Edge gets on the Slane version. He's a great slide player, maybe I should consult him haha!
I made this video purely to show off the Dyna Comp in a cover and you can expect more soon. I have hopes to go back and re-do my cover of "Breathe" and give it a proper performance and recording.
