1890s–1970s Antique & Vintage Time Capsule Shopping Experience!

Antique and vintage vendor malls are scattered throughout Fort Smith, Arkansas, but how do you know which one offers the best deals and most interesting finds? In this video, we compare two locations: a vendor/vintage mall hybrid versus a traditional antique center, to determine which one stands out as the best shopping destination!

Our first stop is Through the Years, under new ownership and transitioning from a catch-all store to a space with a stronger focus on vintage vendors. As we walk through, we pass by some generic used goods spaces, but are pleasantly surprised to come across a charming English antique tile-backed server, indicating we might just find some treasures for ourselves and our collectors! We end up picking up a 1930s Camark vase for $12, a classic Hall teapot for just $9, and a 1970s Lincoln garage door opener for $8. Aviation prints, pool table lights, antique furniture, a working Singer Featherweight sewing machine, even a pencil sharpener straight out of our grade school days grab our attention. We can’t resist an artist-signed piece from Marc Bellaire Ceramics, and suddenly, we’re on a roll!

So can the next place compare? Belle Starr Antiques & Vintage Market is a different experience, a curated mall with nothing but antiques and vintage that offers more selection, but maybe at higher prices…except when we discover a Dam troll doll for just $7, a fine Camark flower frog for under $25 and a handsome (and similarly priced) wooden magnifying glass! This place has lots of collector eye candy too, from darling 1890s children’s prints and highly carved Black Forest walnut furniture to a stylishly upholstered 1950s platform sofa and a cool WWII sailor photo with i.d. tags in a patriotic frame.

What’s the verdict? It turns out that both kinds of antique and vintage shopping malls have plenty to offer collectors, and enough reseller deals if you know how to find them! So the answer to “who wins” is the collector who knows what they like, and the reseller who can pick through differently curated retail malls to find the things their customers prize more.
