From Believers to Doubters: How Liverpool’s Leadership Has Let This Squad Down

Just when it felt like Liverpool were starting to get somewhere, reality hits again.
Yes, the unbeaten run continues… but make no mistake — this was demoralizing. The fact that this Liverpool side still hasn’t won a Premier League game all year is deeply concerning, especially when you consider the talent on the pitch.
What frustrates me most is that there were standout performances today. There were moments, individuals, flashes of quality. But once again, they were undone by strange tactical decisions, sloppy defending, and a mentality that collapses the moment pressure is applied. This team is fragile — bend it even slightly and it folds.
On paper, this attack should not be relying on central midfielders to bail it out week after week. The front three should be producing goals consistently. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this squad is far too good to be playing like this.
And this is the hard part to admit. I want Arne Slot to succeed here — badly. I hate seeing anti-Liverpool voices online praying for his downfall. But honesty matters. Right now, he’s not getting the best out of these players.
More worrying is the feeling that the players themselves are starting to question the coaching. From Alisson refusing to put the ball out when Joe was down, to key players hesitating on renewals — this feels like a far cry from the unity we saw in the summer. It gives off the impression that some players no longer fully trust what they’re being asked to do. And that’s something we haven’t seen at Liverpool in a very long time.
There are serious questions that need answers:
Why Gakpo keeps starting.
Why there’s no shooting conviction.
Why defensive cover disappears so easily.
At this point, it doesn’t feel like Slot is truly in control — and that shifts the blame. Not just to him, but up the chain. This is on FSG. It’s not Gakpo’s fault he’s being picked. It’s Slot’s decision. And it’s not Slot’s fault he hasn’t been properly backed — that’s on ownership.
Liverpool are stuck in a loop. And until the people at the top take responsibility and act, this cycle isn’t breaking.
