Today I had one of the strangest experiences with the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). When I answered the call, the person claimed to be from the Child Support Agency, which was abolished in 2012! This immediately raised some red flags. After a bit of back and forth, the caller confirmed he was from Hastings and was actually with CMS. The weirdest part? He told me my case was being closed as of August 21st, but my original effective date was August 5th. I hadn’t even asked for the case to be closed, just reported a change in care.
