“cOMe what May-hum - it’s our time to dream again". New composition commission for Radiophrenia - Live to Air - a live art improvised performance - a tone poem - sounding the body electric - a desire for new dreams for our futures. Big thanks to Mark Vernon and the team at Radiophrenia for this new commission. Performed at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow, Scotland.
Using direct electrical hum interacting with her body, gunpowder, lasers and a sound activated sari and blouse with light oscillators, Poulomi creates a live, improvised, call and response feedback with listeners ringing in adding their voices, shadowed by a visual backdrop of rebellious urban-scapes, interjected with deep sea electrical life and human internal environments to remind us as humans of our intimate and biological connection with the earth, universes and beyond. Embracing electrical hums - the bane of audio engineers, the mystical OM, maniacal 'Brexit' debates and the puns about Teresa May (the Prime Minister of the UK at the time), Glasgow’s “La Belle Electra and the notorious Dr. Walford Bodie, The Electric Wizard of the North”, Jagdish Chandra Bose's radio experiments, shock jocks, radio phone ins, psycho-acoustic illusions, hearing voices, embodied radio noise, and forensic knowing…Poulomi continues to seek to embody the Sanskrit based meaning the of her/ze name as the Goddess of lightning, hence electricity...
