DIY Bench from junk wood lumber on a rock in the middle of nowhere!
Hi friends! This is a project I've been wanting to do for about 3 years now, and I didn't want to let another year go by without getting it done. Not knowing what my surgical outcome would be, I wanted to do it before my upcoming hip surgery. This particular weekend was a heat-wave in BC, and lemme tell ya, it was SO hot. Between the pain in my hip and the heat, I had to take many breaks, so this took me 2 days. The old Michelle - pre-youtube (without filming) and pre-hip injury, could have got the whole thing done in a day but then I wouldn't get to share it with anyone. 🤷🏻♀️
I built this bench in honour and memory of Scout; my little Scouty-Darling. Not far from Lover's Rock was where Scout spent his last night before strolling over to a nearby creek to get a drink and lay in the 'puddle'. Scout couldn't swim with only 1 front arm, and he drowned. Our hearts were crushed more than you'll ever know - he was one of the toughest dogs we've ever known.
I knew I wanted to build a bench, and I knew it had to be made of some sort of driftwood, or junkwood, so I came up with an idea combining those. The pressure treated 6x6's were off-cuts from Steve working on our docks over the years, and they've been laying around for many years. I ended up using 2 leftover pieces of pressure treated 2x8's (or 2x6's, can't remember) for the seat and back rest. I had just enough of that decent lumber so that determined the length of the bench.
I think it turned out amazing! All that's left to do is make a plaque, or a sign of some sort explaining what the bench is for.
Thanks for watching!
See ya in the next one !
