In this remarkable footage shot by Dan Marovitch on February 26, the SS UNITED STATES is captured under tow by the tug VINIK #6 off the coast of Boca Raton, Florida. The American flagship had departed Philadelphia on February 19 and looked magnificent cutting through the Atlantic, the sea she was built to cross, one final time. For a while, she was shadowed by the massive Royal Caribbean cruise ship UTOPIA OF THE SEAS and would soon round the Keys and enter the Gulf, ending her reign as queen of the Atlantic, the ocean she first conquered in 1952. The largest and fastest American ocean liner will be cut down for reefing off Florida's Gulf Coast after arriving in Mobile on March 3. She is going out in a final blaze of glory. #ssunitedstates
