One common issue with 3D printing, especially in humid environments, is the absorption of water into the plastic filament, which can cause issues during the printing process. The filament drybox shown in this video avoids this issue, by keeping the filament dry at all times, even during printing.
Most plastics are hygroscopic, and will absorb varying amounts of water. When filament containing a lot of waters reaches a heated print head, as the absorbed water will boil from the filament, and create bubbles in the plastic, degrading the quality and strength of the print. A common method of drying filament, is with a heated dry box; However this can be a hassle, as the filament needs to be dried for hours at a time, frequently, or even before every print.
For printers with heated enclosure, the filament can be located inside the enclosure, and the heated enclosure will dry the filament on its own, however for most printers, this is not an option. The best alternative is to build a drybox, like the one shown in this video.
