The Lyres "Don't Give It Up Now" Live July 20, 1984

From the Master tape. Insight: I get to the show in NYC and spent time with the band back stage before their performance. I had asked permission from Jeff if I could record the show. He was hesitant but did give the OK. As I'm filming the show a roadie comes up to me with and began screaming in my face to turn off the camera. With the band roaring and crown going nuts, I'm screaming back "Jeff said it was OK" but didn't move the camera off the performance. This happened on the 4th song..I think it was Help You Ann. The shouting match continued for about a minute or so and eventually the roadie or stage hand relented. The next night I see Monoman back stage at Maxwell's in NJ. I get a punch in the arm by Jeff as he was annoyed I had recorded the show. When I asked if I could tape the show, he thought I meant audio cassette but I certainly wasn't holding no audio cassette player!

This was hand held and recorded live at Irving Plaza with a Panasonic video camera and Magnavox portable VCR. At the time Home video was in its infancy and quite expensive. I think I had spent every penny I had on about $2k worth of gear back then. Mind you the gear was quite heavy. I'd haul this stuff around the streets of NYC to record numerous bands. In fact I'm not sure how many other people had cameras during this time and what has survived 32 years later. I now bring you the Lyres, in a top notch performance.
