Making Giant Oil Rig Pad. Here I'm helping to gravel the access road and this huge pad being built to accommodate a drilling rig to drill 10 or 11 oil wells. They are using heavy landscaping type fabric to give a barrier between the clay and the 12 inches deep crushed gravel placed and compacted. It also helps with water drainage. Very precise survey measurements are used in building pads like this to ensure the best compaction as well as water flow to ensure rainfall doesn't collect anywhere on the pad. I don't recall how many loads but it took more than a week with a dozen or so trucks hauling.
