Navkiran Kaur Mann and Olga Dermott-Bond are the two poets from Coventry who will visit both Ó Bhéal Go Béal (From Mouth to Mouth) in Cork city and DeBarra's Spoken Word in Clonakilty in August 2025 as part of the annual Cork-Coventry Poetry Exchange.
Later, two poets from Cork will head the other way and travel to Coventry.
Navkiran, of Punjabi-Indian heritage, is the first poet in residence at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire, where she visits patients on various wards, talks to them and writes a poem for them. Often moving them to tears of gratitude.
Olga, originally from Norhern Ireland, now lives in Warwickshire. She has won several competitions including the BBC Proms Poetry Competition, the Welshpool Poetry Prize, and the Strokestown International Poetry Prize. Her first full collection Frieze was featured in The Guardian. She is a managing editor for the Irish poetry journal Dodging the Rain.
Both will read at DeBarra's on Augusr 12, bring an entourage of merry (or otherwise) Cork poets and writers, and talk to the audience. There will, of course, be an open mic.
All welcome!
With thanks to Ray Blackwell at DeBarra's Folk Club and the Cork County Arts Office
