Carnival Cruise Line is scrapping its long-standing VIFP Loyalty Program and replacing it with the new spend-based Carnival Rewards Program — and cruisers have opinions! Starting June 2026, loyalty status will no longer be based on nights at sea but on how much you spend. To reach Platinum, you’ll need to spend $17,000 over two years. Diamond? That’s $33,000. And Australian cruisers? We can’t even get the Carnival Rewards credit card to help boost our points.

This shift from a loyalty-based system to a rewards model has upset many longtime cruisers — especially with the loss of VIFP perks like the welcome gift, laundry, and those (increasingly low-key) loyalty parties. Yes, the new system may be more like airlines or casinos, but cruising has always been about loyalty, not just spending.
