Nextdoor Nature from The Wildlife Trusts 2022-2024: The Complete Story

In 2022, The National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded £5 million to The Wildlife Trusts for a project called Nextdoor Nature.

Over two years, community organisers were employed in all 44 UK Wildlife Trusts. Their aim was to listen, support and work alongside 200 communities. In fact, over the lifespan of the project, over 1,600 communities benefited in some way from Nextdoor Nature.

Nextdoor Nature set out to work with people to improve their areas for nature, wherever they lived, worked or played. But central to the project was the idea of community ownership. By being led by the people, this has ensured legacy. All across the UK, the work is continuing. Groups have been supported to become constituted, to find funding, to link with other organisations, to make real, lasting and ongoing change in their local areas.
