This educational video was produced for residents of the Oklahoma Halfway House. Residents stated that due to being in prison for several years (some more than 20 years), it was difficult and frustrating to learn new technology when they returned to living in the community. Therefore, my classmates and I designed videos to introduce and instruct the residents on how to use these newer technologies. These videos may also be beneficial for older adults, new drivers, etc.
This video was designed by Occupational Therapy students through the Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC).
"Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations)," (AOTA, 2012). http://www.aota.org/
Pumping gas is crucial to allow transportation within the community, which is an IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living). This is 1 of 8 areas of occupation.
If you would like additional instruction or assistance, please contact your state Occupational Therapy association or ask your family doctor for assistance in finding a local occupational therapist.
