This has been a journey to figure out how to add crowd mics to my broadcast mix without getting distortion. Many people just think about adding in mics, but what do you do when the PA is distorting the mics? How do you automate them to be on or off? Does your sound tech need one more thing to manage during the live event? Let's talk about how I am side-chain gating the crowd mics using a drum bus and my bass channel to turn the mics off when the full band is playing.
