The Boondocks is a show I've shown a lot of love to throughout the years. This video explores something that I'm not fond of within The Boondocks show, which is how its exploration into black issues can be framed so often from the lens of respectability.

This othering of black people and the need to present in a way that is respectable to be deserving of respect is an underlying theme within the show, and we're gonna talk about not only where it comes from, and the era of black comedy in the 2000s it's tied to, but also how it had a clear impact and influence on how The Boondocks chose to explore this subject.

It's all love. I know people can get territorial, but I'll never stop loving Boondocks. It's just not a perfect work, which is kind of what makes it fun to talk about.

So many people look to satire to ridicule the things they don't like in a meansprited way, but I actually find that when looked at without that lens, it can be a really interesting way of seeing how flagrant or careful social and cultural issues were treated and approached at the time.
