“I’ll be back.”
Though he’d written and directed earlier films such as RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART 2 and PIRANHA 2: THE SPAWNING respectively, Writer/Director James Cameron exploded onto the scene proper in 1984 with the seminal science fiction/horror classic THE TERMINATOR.
Its harrowing tale of a cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent back through time to murder the mother of mankind’s only hope (Linda Hamilton) and the soldier sent back to protect her (Michael Biehn) is at its heart a love story told on the run with taut narrative, relentless action and a myriad of dazzling visual and practical effects. The film was deemed culturally, historically and aesthetically significant and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2008.
Following the first film’s success, the 1991 sequel TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY would not only see the story and mythology of Cameron’s vision expanded tenfold...but would go on to redefine the action blockbuster as we know it. Becoming the first film in history to earn $100 million dollars in its opening weekend and influencing popular culture in a number of ways, T2 is now highly regarded as one of the most beloved movies of all time and arguably the greatest sequel ever made.
Together, James Cameron’s TERMINATOR films touch on themes of apocalypse, fate, artificial intelligence, morality, parenthood, responsibility and the notion of the most insignificant among us holding the key to our salvation...all woven together in a stunning, sprawling tale that continues to captivate audiences today. While the franchise has long since expanded with comic books, video games, a television series and three subsequent films culminating with this year’s upcoming TERMINATOR: DARK FATE acting as a proper sequel to JUDGMENT DAY, the first two films are in a league entirely of their own.
THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY are owned and copyrighted by James Cameron.
“The Terminator Theme (Extended Version),” produced by Brad Fiedel, Kevin Elson, Jay Ferguson, Michael Verdick, John French, Trevor Courtney and composed and performed by Brad Fiedel, is owned and copyrighted by Enigma Records.
