Our answer will follow this template: “In the past, somebody has only done X and Y. X has a particular characteristic. Thus, if the next thing they do is not Y, then it will probably have the characteristic of X.”

When you’re practicing Parallel Reasoning questions, it might help to make up another argument with a similar structure. Do this before you look at the answer choices. Example: “Bob has only ever eaten vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Vanilla ice cream is usually ordered with toppings. So, if Bob doesn’t order chocolate the next time he orders ice cream, he will probably get toppings.”

We want to pick the choice that sticks most closely to this template.

Note: the stimulus is not flawed. You might point out that the next song Amanda writes may be neither a blues nor a punk rock song—maybe she’ll write a rap song. It doesn’t matter though. The stimulus says “probably” in the last sentence, which leaves some wiggle room to avoid objections like that one.
