Alexis Kalofolias and Thanos Amorginos are best known to the Greek public as a members of The Last Drive, a popular garage rock band in the 80s and early 90s. After the group
disbanded in 1995, Kalofolias and Amorginos teamed up to form Earthbound, a rock fusion band with Middle Eastern influences. Together, they composed the soundtrack for the
2002 Stratos Tzitzis film Sose Me (Save Me), which featured the song “Gia Ligo.”
“Gia Ligo” (Just for a Little While) was a popular song on Greek radio when it was released, thanks to a striking sample of a 1948 love song by legendary Greek singer Danae Stratigopoulou. Tango became a fad across Europe in the 1920s, and its recognizable rhythm infiltrated popular music across the continent. Kalofolias and Amorginos emphasize this tango influence with an electronic upgrade. Stratigopoulou, who is still performing to this day, sings, “I wish you would come just for a little while / Only for one night, to fill with light my horrible darkness.”
