According to the United Nations, approximately 35% of women around the world have experienced physical or sexual violence. Furthermore, gender-based violence (GBV) is known to increase in conflict or humanitarian settings, as well as in the aftermath of displacements and natural disasters. The COVID-19 pandemic is further exacerbating this issue, as lockdowns place many women in vulnerable positions and isolate them from vital resources and support. As such, a deliberate conversation about the realities of GBV and what can be done to protect women and girls around the globe is crucial to addressing the current moment.
