How Silk Is Made in Cambodia | A Family Visit to a Traditional Silk Farm

In this video, our whole family visits a traditional silk farm in Siem Reap, Cambodia — and we get to see the entire process of how silk is made, from start to finish.

With the help of an excellent local guide, we learn about every step:
• The plants that feed the silkworms
• The life cycle of the silkworm
• How cocoons are formed
• How silk threads are extracted and refined
• Natural coloring using traditional methods
• Preparation of threads for weaving
• And finally, the weaving process itself — all done by hand

Watching the women in the workshop work patiently, barefoot, using simple wooden tools on wooden looms, was impressive. The rhythm of the workshop, the sounds, and the calm focus created an almost meditative atmosphere.

After the workshop, we explored the silk museum, where we learned more about the history and traditions of silk in Cambodia. Seeing the finished products after understanding the full process gave us a completely new appreciation for the craft.

Our guide taught us so much about silk and Cambodian traditions. It reminded us how much deeper an experience becomes when you learn from someone who truly knows the craft.

We ended the visit in the gift shop, filled with handmade local products. Supporting places like this — where real skill, tradition, and craftsmanship are preserved — feels genuinely meaningful.
