🔎 Origins of International Tea Day:
2003: Asian Social Forum held in Hyderabad, India. The issue of tea plantation workers was first raised.
Lonavala Meeting: Representatives from Sri Lanka, Kenya, India, and other tea-producing countries agreed on the need for a dedicated International Tea Day.
📆 Choosing the Date:
Historical Significance: December 1839, when Chinese tea workers in Assam protested for their wages.
Decision: December 15th was chosen as the date to commemorate their struggle.
📜 Declaration and Early Celebrations:
2005: December 15th declared International Tea Day at the World Social Forum in Brazil.
1️⃣ First Celebration: December 15th, 2005, in India.
2️⃣ 2006: Second celebration in Kandy, Sri Lanka, with a procession in Hatton town advocating for plantation workers.
