Check engine code P0021 on my VW and how i fixed it the right way

The touareg is back! well, actually it never left, its just been used as a daily for the last year or so. It been great so far with the exception of a dead battery (VW only item) but looks like my luck has finally run out. the other day check engine code P0021 appeared and i dont know about you, but when i see any sort of check engine light on a german i associate it with monumental parts/repair costs. before i started replacing expensive parts and sensors, i decided to change the oil to see if that helps. even tho i havent put too many miles on, its been a year since i last changed the oil so it was long overdue, wish me luck!!
