Restoration of a 120-Year-Old Antique Mirror | Full Process

In this video, I take on the challenge of restoring a 130-year-old antique mirror that had lost its shine under layers of dirt, oxidation, and an old layer of clear resin. The mirror frame was originally made of wood and covered with engraved brass sheets, but time had left it dark, dull, and neglected.

To bring it back to life, I completely disassembled the frame and carefully restored every piece.

🛠️ Restoration Steps:

1. Disassembled all parts of the mirror


2. Removed the dark, aged resin layer using paint remover


3. Sanded and reshaped the wooden parts using chisels and sanding blocks


4. Reconstructed the wooden frame with wood glue and nails


5. Polished and gold-toned the brass sheets to reveal their original shine


6. Cut a new mirror to size and mounted it into the frame


7. Reinstalled the brass sheets using nails for a secure fit
