At the intermediate level, tackling your first Japanese novel can be a real challenge. Many expressions and kanji are unique to novels and rarely appear in other media like manga or movies. But by learning these “novel-friendly” expressions in advance, you can build a strong vocabulary foundation and make progress more quickly.

In this video, I introduce 5 expressions that frequently appear in Japanese novels. Some of these include kanji you may not know, even if you've mastered the JLPT N1 kanji list! I present them in a “novel-like” way, so you can experience them in a realistic context. By the end of this video, you’ll feel more confident about starting your Japanese reading journey.
