Inside Trump's trillion dollar Greenland defence shield - US 'only people who could afford it'

President Trump could offer Greenlanders $1m each if they back his plan to join the US as he calls off his tariff war.

Trump, after speaking with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, outlined what he called his “framework of a future deal” over Greenland.

To entice Greenlanders, the politician is understood to be mulling offering them cash if they vote to join the US, the Daily Mail reported.

Senior officials claimed that Rutte had been pursuing a compromise this week, with a number of proposals on the negotiating table.

One was for the US to have some sovereignty over pockets of Greenland for military bases.

An official who attended the meetings compared this concept to the UK bases in Cyprus, which are regarded as British territory, the New York Times reported.
