Now living in Oregon, OV1 was born and raised in ‘70’s and 80’s Chicago. Growing up steeped in the city’s deep Jazz & Disco traditions, OV1’s love for music blossomed at the dawning of Chicago House Music, which captivated him in its rhythms and melodies. Inspired, he started DJ’ing as a young teen in the late 80’s, and became a member of the Chuckbrothers collective, wherein he had the privilege of being mentored by incredible individuals who shaped him into the artist he is today: Mike Brown, Brian Reaves, Lil Darren, Cee White, and above all, Boogienite (David Dean Jr).

At the tender age of 19, OV1 was awarded a DJ residency at Club 57. This invaluable opportunity gave him the formative experience of sharing the booth with legendary DJs such as DJ Rush, Felix the Housecat, Roy Davis Jr, and Johnny Evans. It was during this time that OV1 earned the nickname "The One", bestowed after numerous unforgettable sessions at Club 57.

Following the C57 residency, OV1 put his DJ skills on hiatus and delved into the world of music production, creating numerous indelible tracks and edits under the guidance of Boogienite, Rahaan, and other mentors. Then, in 2004, on a memorable New Year’s Eve at da house Spot, OV1 was called to the turntables once again. DJ’ing alongside Rahaan, Greg Grey, Hugo H., and Mike Redman, OV1 delivered an exhilarating experience showcasing his signature Chicago style to an enthusiastic crowd. From that point forward, the world opened up and became OV1’s playground, and he continues to share his passion for music with audiences worldwide.

For ACRMIX004, OV1 presents a masterful, wide ranging, deep, and uplifting take on Chicago House, Techno, Broken, and Disco sounds, adroitly mixed and sequenced in his singular way. One we’ll be returning to over and over again no doubt!

The ARCMIX series is conceived with a prerogative to uphold and exalt Record Changing, i.e. Disk Jockeying, as it was in the beginning, and shall be unto infinity, in the open, inclusive, and innovative spirit of the original Record Changer and very first modern Disk Jockey, Francis Grasso.
