In this video i show you my new Retro gaming machine build. I'll show which parts i have and which i want to use. I like to hear your opionion and idea's for this build or a retro gaming build.
The choice for a slot1 Pentium III cpu on an ASUS P3B-F was simple. Back in June 1999 i bought:
Motherboard: ASUS P3B-F
Cpu: Pentium III 450mhz
Mem: 128mb sdram.
Video: Nvidia TNT 8MB agp
The case was a heavy duty steel miditower.
From my pentium1 i had a voodoo2 12mb helios and a Soundblaster AWE64SE and a 100mbit nic from intel.
The harddisk where a 6.4gb and later a 13gb
Now i want to build a Retro machine with the specs i couldn't affort back in that days. The games which i like to play on this machine are Halflife1+all expensions Quake2 NFS3 + Porsche etc. My choice for the OS will be Windows 2000 and not 98 because Win2k is so much more stable.
This setup has:
Asus P3B-F Pentium III 500 512mb sdram
For the 3d i gonna use 2x Voodoo2 Sli setup!!
These parts i really gonna use. The rest of the parts can be anything as long its highend hardware.
My choice for the AGP card will be Matrox G200/G400 or Riva TNT 16mb or do you have better options for this build?
For the soundcard i like to go for a ISA card. I like to build it with a SB AWE64se or maybe AWE64gold. Don't really know other good isa soundcards with windows 2000 drivers. So please tell me which other cards are good quality isa soundcards.
The nic can be intel 3com or netgear. (No realtek haha)
For storage i could go for a Promise Fasttrak TX2000 but maybe its to new for this build. I have 2 extremely fast maxtors perfect for raid0 setup. I also have an Adaptec 2940uw but i have done enough with scsi so on this build i prefer ide.
For the case i want to build a custom case/casemod. I have some plans but i first need to know which parts i gonna use so everything will fit. I think it will have a gaming theme.
So please comment this video with your vision and opinions about a retro gaming build!
