A little context (a bit difficult to explain):

When Indonesia was independent from Japan, the British and Dutch came, known as NICA, on October 25 1945, with the aim of seizing Japanese weapons and freeing the prisoners. After the Dutch flag tearing incident at the Yamato Hotel, a small war broke out which made General D.C. Hawthorn reports to Ir. Soekarno to deescalate the situation. The shootout culminated in the killing of brigadier general Mallaby in his Buick car. Mallaby's death made the British angry and they issued an ultimatum to Indonesia. However, Indonesia rejected it because they thought the ultimatum would weaken Indonesia and the colonialists would more easily control Indonesia. And the biggest and toughest battle in history occurred and ended with the death of 20,000 civilians and as many as 1,600 British soldiers died, disappeared and were injured.
