Ingredients:
3 eggs (only the yolks)
80 g grated sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
40 g cornflour
2 glasses of milk
1 cup whipping cream
Biscuits (enough for layering)
Milk (for soaking biscuits)
Chocolate (for melting and decoration)
Method:
Prepare the custard:
Take 3 egg yolks and mix with 80 g sugar until smooth.
Add 1 tsp vanilla essence and mix well.
Stir in 40 g cornflour until fully combined.
Cook the mixture:
Boil 2 glasses of milk in a pan.
Once it starts boiling, slowly add a little of the hot milk into the egg mixture while stirring (to temper the eggs).
Then add this egg mixture back into the remaining milk on the stove and stir continuously over low heat until it thickens.
Once thick, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Beat it with a hand or electric beater to make it smooth.
Prepare the cream:
Whip 1 cup of whipping cream until soft peaks form.
Fold the whipped cream gently into the thickened custard mixture.
Assemble the dessert:
Soak the biscuits in milk for a few seconds and place them as the first layer in a serving dish.
Spread a layer of the custard-cream mixture over the biscuits.
Repeat to make 3 layers, alternating soaked biscuits and custard-cream.
Prepare the chocolate topping:
Heat some fresh cream and melt chocolate in it to make a chocolate syrup.
Pour this over the top layer and decorate with chocolate.
Chill and serve:
Refrigerate the dessert for 5 hours or until set.
Serve chilled.
