I had no idea that the GoRuck brand even existed until Aaron and I started talking about what shoes to include in our BEST CROSS-TRAINING shoe video, which is coming out soon by the way.
So like all the shoes we picked, we decided to test its performance against the Nike Metcon 6s, and here are the 5 differences ON PAPER that we found.
1. When it comes to measurements the GoRucks are larger than The Metcon 6s, well everywhere, so let’s start with the outside. The GoRucks are larger lengthwise by 1cm , in the toe box by 1.1cms, in the heel width by 0.75 cms (barely noticeable) and in the heel collar by 2 cms.
2. On the inside the GoRucks have a larger drop at 27.2 mm making this the largest difference with the Metcons. The drop of the shoe is essentially the difference in thickness from the heel to the ball of the foot. The drop of a shoe is important because depending on that drop our bodies will absorb impact in different areas. So basically a shoe with a higher drop will be easier on the lower leg—foot, ankle, Achilles, calf—while putting more stress on knees and hips, A lower-drop will be easier on the knees but put more stress on the lower leg.
3. Also on the inside the GoRucks have a softer heel cushion at 40 duros. A softer heel cushion might be a good idea for running but not so much when it comes to weightlifting, this greatly reduces the amount of force you can generate through your feet.
The Gorucks are made of something they call breathable and flexible knit on the outside of the toe box and tough ballistic nylon on the sides of the shoe, and like we’ve mentioned in all our other comparison videos the metcons have very breathable mesh, and I’m only mentioning these materials because they bring us to the next difference, which is breathability. The GORUCKS have a breathability of 2.4, the Metcons are way more breathable at 9.7
4. And the last difference is going to be the weight of these shoes, The GoRucks are heavier than the metcons at 319.6 grams, not a huge difference but maybe something to think about if you’re doing more than stationary movements
Now I haven’t mentioned heel thickness nor the cushioning for the ball of the boot of these shoes, and thats only because well they’re the same! Both the GoRucksand metcons have a heel thickness of 27mm and the cushioning for the ball of the foot is 40 duros.
Now like I mentioned at the beginning of this video these are all differences on paper. In the gym I can personally say the GoRucks and metcons feel completely different. Something I couldn’t say for many of the other shoes we’ve used. I actually love the gorucks!! They are a great fit and just feel really solid when transitioning from simple body weight movements to more complex things like weightlifting. I will say though, like I’ve mentioned in the past, I am a pretty flashy person when it comes to the things I like to wear so 2 colour options ( black and lunar rock which is basically an off white) was a bit disappointing given how much I love the fit of these shoes. But I guess having funky shoes really doesn’t matter when im “rucking” my way through MURPH trying not to pass out.
