A day in Five Islands, Georgetown, Maine

Five Islands is a shoreside scenic spot in Georgetown in southern Maine. Sheepscot Bay is a charming location yet the nature is not what pulls thousands of tourist to the area. In fact, it is Five Islands Lobster Co, an iconic seafood shack that serves the best lobsters all around.
The shore is rugged with fairly high tides, fogs are frequent and thick over here. Five Islands area has its own microclimate pocket and the weather may be pretty different from anything one hour away.
I visited Five Islands a few times in the recent years and one time it looked like an art house movie with muted colors and the fog. Five Islands is one of the best spots in southern Maine, it is pretty far away from beaten paths, it can get busy in season but most folks are crowding around the lobster shack, if you walk a bit further there's no one there. It can be a quick and easy scenic route detour on your Portland or Bangor road trip itinerary. Along with Georgetown proper – that has a cute local grocer with homemade rhubarb jams – it can be a day trip destination.
